Trillium Cafe is one of those places that you know once you enter, that the meal you’re about to have will be special. We were seated at a cozy table next to a window that overlooked the garden. Many of the plants and flowers grown here are used in the food, and that speaks to the care that goes into every dish served here. I happen to love crab, especially the Dungeness variety, and this is exactly what I had. It was a Dungeness crab strudel with Meyer lemon marmalade. Yes it was pure heaven, the crab was fresh a little sweet and the lemon was the perfect foil to raise the bar without overpowering the delicate local crustacean. For my main dish I enjoyed the locally caught Salmon, that came out really hot, and yet was cooked perfectly, tender […]
Normally when you think B&B it conjures up a nice breakfast usually of the continental type. But here’s one of those secrets, Brewery Gulch offers the full monty, a menu of wonderful choices, cooked to order one of a kind omelets, and that “millionaires” bacon-perfect. Perched above the Pacific, the Inn has fantastic views, and is just a very short drive to the town of Mendocino. In fact if you’re up for it, the beach is also just a short walk or bike ride from the Inn. Our room in the lodge was spacious, clean and yes we did have that gorgeous view. Brewery Gulch has received many awards including a 4 diamond award from Triple A, and the certificate of excellence from TripAdvisor just to name two. Even with multiple awards the owners Guy and Sarah Pacurar couldn’t leave […]
Valette is a delicious new force in Healdsburg California. Located in the heart of Sonoma wine country two brothers Dustin Valette and Aaron Garzini made this dream a reality in March 2015. The menu is all about what this area has to offer on a seasonal basis, and the wine list is very impressive and well thought out (you are in Sonoma after all). Everything here is house made including the superb charcuterie, which is aged in a custom built “locker” above the kitchen built by Dustin and Aaron’s brother. Yes beer was involved along with a challenge to build it. The precisely climate controlled environment needed for proper aging lets the finished product speak for itself. In what you might call a case of coming full circle or destiny, this building was owned by the brothers great great grandfather, […]
Top Of The Market Restaurant is literally that, located above The Fish Market Seafood Restaurant, A place where locals and visitors alike go to dine and can purchase fresh seafood. The water front location is beautiful and the Top Of The Market Restaurant (on the second floor) has commanding views of the harbor, and even better views of those San Diego sunsets. The dining area lined with teak, table settings with white linen and huge windows bring the outdoors in to you. Executive Chef Ivan Flowers and his team work in concert to serve the freshest seafood available. Although I highly recommend anything from the ocean here make no mistake, everything I tried was outstanding.

1313 Main of Napa California in my opinion is one of Napa’s best restaurants. With executive Chef Adam Ross at the helm, and Jordan Nova restaurant director and certified Sommelier you have two power players who love what they do, and it shows. Restaurant owner Al Jabarin (also the owner of online wine seller www.calwine.com) has given Chef Adam and Jordan the freedom to create locally sourced dishes and wine pairings that are out of this world. This can be a risky proposition, but with the years of experience that both Chef and Jordan bring to the table it was a no brainer, and it has worked very well. When Chef Adam creates a new dish, and before it goes up onto the menu, he looks to Jordan and his kitchen staff for ways to improve upon his creation, and […]
After more than 17 years of accomplished culinary experience, Chef Alejandro Abad was recently named Executive Chef at Bay 223. Chef Abad, a Spanish native from Barcelona, began at an early age by preparing meals at home with his father. He fine-tuned his culinary experience training in molecular cuisine, learned wines and spices and worked fine dining establishments throughout Europe, including five years in Barcelona, and Michelin-rated Restaurant Christophe and Restaurant Vermeer, in Holland.
His mantra is a single word: fresh. And the location here is so very conducive to “ fresh.” Enjoying a recent dinner at Bay 223 we wanted to know learn more. Here in part is Luxe Beat Magazine’s interview with this busy executive chef and one of his best lavender recipes.
CT: Chef Abad as executive chef what is your vision for the restaurant Bay 223 ? And […]
When designer Jill Cole was creating the sleek revamp of Sofitel San Francisco Bay ‘s guestroom floors, she had the added challenge of integrating existing elements. Asked by the architectural design trade magazine Hospitality Design for the source of her inspiration, Ms. Cole was quoted as saying of her minimalist beige palette, accented by dark woods and splashes of red, “ The view of the bay. . . we just stood back and let it happen.” ( HD August 2013).
She delivered. The comfortable rooms and suites are well-equipped for working and have subtle details like issues of France Magazine on the desk and Lanvin bath amenities to reflect Sofitel’s French luxury brand provenance.
The sophisticated style and proximity to Silicon Valley surrounded by many Fortune 500 companies, Facebook and LinkedIn in heart of San Mateo county, makes Sofitel SFO a favorite […]
If you have an inkling to open a winery in this area be prepared to spend 4 to 5 million an acre, if you can find it at all in Woodside, California. Luis (Buff) Giurlani has one and is living the dream.
His Woodside Vineyards is one of the oldest, small vineyards in California. As Mr. Giurlani jokes, ” If we go by the land value here, this wine should be the most expensive in the world!”
“But wait” you say, “didn’t I read above that AutoVino is a state-of-the-art luxury car and fine wine storage facility?” Yes. Mr. Giurlani, part of a family olive oil import business in San Francisco, has a penchant for classic, and luxury cars. Trouble is he soon needed a place to store them. Not finding anything satisfactory, he built one.
Climate controlled, dust free and offering services […]
Wandering the aisles of the local wine store, I sometimes wonder about the names of people on the labels. Are they real people? Who are they? What was their vision? Can their vision be tasted in this bottle?
I do know one who was very real. There was a Rodney Strong. Mr. Strong was the early visionary in Sonoma County who had the idea that this area and all of its micro-climates could bring forth world-class wine.
Today Rodney Strong Vineyards encompass two major brands Rodney Strong and Davis Bynum. Mr. Strong’s namesake company planted grapes of many varietals including Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in the terroir of Alexander Valley. In Chalk Hill he was the first to plant Chardonnay vines in 1965. In the Russian River Valley much like Burgundy, France, he found the fog cooled climate perfect for […]
