Lake Charles Louisiana, A Hidden Gem of Food Fun And Hospitality

Freshly caught Gulf fish served at Jack Daniel's Bar & Grill   Tucked away in the southwest corner of Louisiana is a food lovers paradise. Consistently fresh seafood with an easy hospitality and Cajun influence all come together to equal more than the sum of it’s parts. Lake Charles, located in Calcasieu Parish, is a melting pot of French, African, and German immigrants that is purely reflected in it’s food culture. The food here shows the struggles of the people, and how so many of the food traditions have been handed down and melded through the generations. Cajun country people are frugal, and nothing goes to waste. In fact over time the recipes haven’t changed all that much, and they don’t have to as they remain classics. Nearly everything that I tried, was for the very first time, and I [...]

Sofitel SFO: Sophisticated By Design

The cool, gleaming lobby of the Sofitel SFO. When designer Jill Cole was creating the sleek revamp of Sofitel San Francisco Bay ‘s guestroom floors, she had the added challenge of integrating existing elements. Asked by the architectural design trade magazine Hospitality Design for the source of her inspiration, Ms. Cole was quoted as saying of her minimalist beige palette, accented by dark woods and splashes of red, “ The view of the bay. . . we just stood back and let it happen.” ( HD August 2013). She delivered. The comfortable rooms and suites are well-equipped for working and have subtle details like issues of France Magazine on the desk and Lanvin bath amenities to reflect Sofitel’s French luxury brand provenance. The sophisticated style and proximity to Silicon Valley surrounded by many Fortune 500 companies, Facebook and [...]

Ka’anapali Fresh Festival 2014

The languid life awaits you at the Hyatt Regency Maui at Ka'anapali Resort. What a glorious celebration Ka'anapali Fresh Festival  is of  the relationship between Maui farmers, fishermen, ranchers and chefs.  For three days the agriculture, seafood and ranching community ( there are 800 farms on Maui) is brought to the forefront  as talented island chefs create an abundance of flavorful, fresh pupu, dishes, deserts and drinks at Ka'anapali Beach Resort. The mission is simple; to ensure the viability and future of Maui's farms and ranches. Preservation of the lifestyle is also key. Slick Stay: The Modern Honolulu

The registration desk at The Modern Honolulu is the first hint that this hip, swank hotel will deliver a very unique but relaxing stay for you. Waikiki has so many options and yes even kama'ainas ( locals)  do venture there now and again. I think its best to stay on either end of Waikiki to stay out of the traffic fray- there always seems to be some roadwork  on the main drag of Kalakaua Ave. There are two directions on this side of the island: Ewa and Diamond Head. So here is a fantastic place on the Ewa  end of Waikiki. Do you remember the opening for the old Hawaii Five -O show? Steve  McGarrett is standing on the lanai of the newly built  Ilikai Hotel ( curiously the real name of the developer was Chin Ho).  The [...]
