Warm Melting Chocolate Cake from Carnival

How many eggs does it take to make the 12 million servings of Warm Melting Chocolate Cakes created aboard each of the ships in the Carnival Cruise Line? The astounding answer is 48 million eggs.

With this recipe for Carnival Cruise Lines’ most requested dessert you can make four at a time in your own kitchen. This chocolaty, rich and decadent single-serving cake is more like a truffle than a cake; all soft gooey luscious chocolate in the center. This would be a perfect finish to a special dinner with your Valentine at home. Or make it just because you love chocolate anytime.

Mendocino’s Brewery Gulch Inn Has A Secret Or Two

Normally when you think B&B it conjures up a nice breakfast usually of the continental type. But here’s one of those secrets, Brewery Gulch offers the full monty, a menu of wonderful choices, cooked to order one of a kind omelets, and that “millionaires” bacon-perfect. Perched above the Pacific, the Inn has fantastic views, and is just a very short drive to the town of Mendocino. In fact if you’re up for it, the beach is also just a short walk or bike ride from the Inn. Our room in the lodge was spacious, clean and yes we did have that gorgeous view. Brewery Gulch has received many awards including a 4 diamond award from Triple A, and the certificate of excellence from TripAdvisor just to name two.  Even with multiple awards the owners Guy and Sarah Pacurar couldn’t leave […]

Lake Charles Louisiana, A Hidden Gem of Food Fun And Hospitality

Freshly caught Gulf fish served at Jack Daniel’s Bar & Grill

Tucked away in the southwest corner of Louisiana is a food lovers paradise. Consistently fresh seafood with an easy hospitality and Cajun influence all come together to equal more than the sum of it’s parts. Lake Charles, located in Calcasieu Parish, is a melting pot of French, African, and German immigrants that is purely reflected in it’s food culture. The food here shows the struggles of the people, and how so many of the food traditions have been handed down and melded through the generations. Cajun country people are frugal, and nothing goes to waste. In fact over time the recipes haven’t changed all that much, and they don’t have to as they remain classics. Nearly everything that I tried, was for the very first time, and I was not […]

Don’t Get Broadsided By Your Rental Car Paperwork

(first published at elliott.org, image: Shutterstock)

When it comes to renting a car, it’s easy to get confused about your insurance needs. But it’s also easily avoidable — if you know what to look for.

I should know. I used to own a car rental franchise.

Here’s what it comes down to: Do some preparation before you book, read your agreement carefully, ask questions before you sign and you can prevent any surprises.

Before reserving

Look for frequent traveler partnerships with airlines, credit card companies, hotels, and group and military discounts.

When you book

Select the right vehicle. […]
